Nanofiltration NF Systems – Industrial & Commercial


The nano filtration technique is mainly used for the removal of two valued ions and the larger mono valued ions such as heavy metals. This technique can be seen as a coarse RO (reversed osmosis) membrane.
Because nano filtration uses less fine membranes, the feed pressure of the NF system is generally lower compared to RO systems. Also the fouling rate is lower compared to Ro systems

Nano filtration (NF), in water treatment, “bridges” a gap between UF and RO membranes.  It is sometimes referred to as a loose or lower rejecting RO membrane.  It could also be called a tight UF, as NF membrane pore size ranges from .01 to a little less than .001.  Generally, an NF membrane system lets more salt pass than an RO membrane.  In addition, an NF membrane element will produce the same quantity of product at 50 to 70% the applied pressure as an RO water treatment system.

Operating Specifications:

  • feed water temperature: 42°C
  • Feed water pressure: 20 to 50 psi
  • Operating pressure: 80 to 125 psi
  • Hydrogen Sulfide must be removed
  • Turbidity should be removed
  • Iron content: 0.05 ppm
  • Equipment upgrade for higher TDS values
  • Hardness over 1 GPG requires antiscalant dosing
  • pH tolerance range: 3-11
  • Silica Tolerance: 60 ppm @ 60% recovery
  • Operate at higher TDS by lowering recovery
